Lab Companion Partner: School of Physics & electronics, Hunan University
The School of Physics and Microelectronics Science at Hunan University has a long history and a profound educational tradition.
In 1903, Hunan Higher Education, which was restructured from Shiwu School and Yuelu Academy, offered physics courses, making it the earliest subject to introduce foreign teachers to teach in a millennium old institution. In 1910, Hunan Excellent Normal School established the Department of Mathematics and Physics. In 1924, Hunan Industrial Specialized School established the Department of Mathematics and Physics. In 1926, Hunan Industrial Specialized School, Law and Politics Specialized School, and Commerce Specialized School merged to form Hunan University, with the Department of Mathematics and Physics becoming one of the four disciplines and eight departments at the beginning of its establishment. In 1933, the Department of Mathematics and Physics was divided into two departments: Physics and Mathematics.
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it has undergone changes and development from the Department of Physics, the Department of Basic Courses (Applied Physics, Semiconductor Devices), the Department of Applied Physics to the School of Physics and Microelectronics Science.
For over a hundred years, predecessors such as Yi Ganqiu, Xiong Zhengli, Xie Yuming, Tian Qu, Xie Houfan, Ge Xuchu, and Shi Renqiu have successively taken charge of teaching here, forging ahead and opening up the mountains and forests; Scholars such as Xia Yuantang, Wen Shi, Cao Xiumao, and Zhou Xiaoqian successively taught here, imparting knowledge and educating people with moral character. We have cultivated such outstanding alumni as Zhang Weiyi, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of the Central People's Government and Director of the Prime Minister's Office, and Chen Xingdan, academician of the CAS Member.
